Along with 192 nations and 50 international organizations, Uruguay will participate in the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai organized by the People’s Republic of China.  The Expo begins on 1 May and runs until 31 October of this year.

The theme of the Expo, “Better city, better life,” represents mankind’s common desire to achieve a better quality of life in urban environments.

This commitment requires a maximum effort from all social actors so that cities can become more modern, efficient, clean, integrated with nature and friendly towards its residents, while still being the basis for achieving sustainable economic and human development.

For Uruguay, this is a great opportunity to show that our cities enable and encourage interaction amongst the most diverse cultures and promote economic prosperity, sustainable development and urban renewal, while maintaining close contact with nature that surrounds and is integrated with our cities.

At Shanghai, Uruguay will present a novel 324 m2 stand at the joint Central and South America Pavilion along with a restaurant where the INAC National Meat Institute will promote the excellent quality of Uruguayan meats.

Using coordinated actions, we will seek to improve the international positioning of our country based on the concept of “Natural Uruguay.”

We will present the country’s for export goods and services, the excellent conditions for productive investments and the high quality of life for which Uruguay is noted.

More than 350,000 people from all over the world will visit the Uruguay stand throughout the six-month duration of the Expo. Through audiovisual and printed material, visitors will be able to understand the economic, social and cultural characteristics of the country.

Visitors will also be able to appreciate our people’s artistic creations, the natural beauty that makes Uruguay an unparalleled tourism destination in Latin America and the high quality of life that we hold on an international level.

The Uruguayan business sector (represented directly or through business organizations) and various social organizations (either directly or indirectly related to the theme of the Expo) will actively participate along with the Uruguayan government and public entities.

This public-private cooperation is creating very positive effects that will help us play a significant role at the Expo. However, it is also indispensable to strengthen economic, commercial, social and cultural ties with the People’s Republic of China, the event’s host.

With these words, please accept our most cordial welcome to Uruguay’s Expo Shanghai 2010 official website.
